Basketr ("we", "us", "our") is a UK grocery price comparison service available at basketr.app. We help you find the best prices across major UK supermarkets.

2. Data We Collect

We collect and process the following data:

• Account data: Email address and name (if you register).
• Usage data: Searches, basket contents, and favourites (stored locally or synced if signed in).
• Receipt images: Photos you upload for receipt scanning. These are processed in real-time and not stored on our servers.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, and device information for security and rate limiting.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and improve the price comparison service.
• To sync your favourites, lists, and settings across devices.
• To process receipt images for spending analysis.
• To prevent abuse and ensure service security.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We use:

• Essential cookies: Session authentication (HttpOnly, secure). These are strictly necessary and do not require consent.
• Local storage: Basket contents, loyalty card preferences, and cookie consent status. This data stays on your device.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

5. Third-Party Services

• Anthropic (Claude AI): Receipt images are sent to the Claude Vision API for text extraction. Images are processed in real-time and not retained by Anthropic beyond the API call. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Plausible Analytics (if enabled): Privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics. No personal data is collected. See Plausible's Data Policy.
• PostHog (product analytics, EU-hosted): We use PostHog to understand which features are used and improve the app. Events include actions like “scanned a barcode”, “searched for a product”, and “added item to basket”. We never send your email, name, or other identifying information — only an internal numeric user ID for logged-in users. PostHog is hosted in the EU. You can disable tracking by enabling “Do Not Track” in your browser settings. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
• Sentry (if enabled): Error monitoring for service reliability. May collect IP addresses and browser info. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Retention

• Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
• Receipt images: Not stored. Processed in real-time only.
• Price data: Publicly available supermarket pricing, refreshed regularly.
• Session data: Authentication sessions expire after 30 days.

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").

Basketr is a free grocery price comparison tool that aggregates publicly available pricing data from UK supermarkets including Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Ocado, Waitrose, Iceland, Aldi, Lidl, and Co-op. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of these retailers.

2. Price Accuracy

Prices displayed on Basketr are collected from publicly available sources and may not always reflect the current in-store or online price. Prices can change at any time without notice. We make reasonable efforts to keep data up to date, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any pricing information.

Always verify the final price on the retailer's website or in-store before making a purchase.

3. No Liability

Basketr is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of this service, including but not limited to:

• Incorrect or outdated pricing information.
• Purchasing decisions made based on our data.
• Service interruptions or unavailability.
• Loss of data or account information.

4. Receipt Scanner

The receipt scanning feature uses AI (Anthropic Claude) to extract text from images. Results are approximate and may contain errors. Product matching is performed algorithmically and may not always find the correct corresponding product. You should verify matched products and prices before relying on the analysis.

5. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that are used to abuse the service, including but not limited to automated scraping, excessive API usage, or any activity that degrades service performance.

6. Intellectual Property

Product names, images, and branding are the property of their respective retailers. Basketr's interface, code, and original content are our intellectual property. You may not scrape, reproduce, or redistribute our aggregated data without permission.

7. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of Basketr after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be communicated via the app.

8. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
